Facebook Integrates New Click to Messenger Ads to Instagram

Now if you want to purchase something from an Instagram ad, you may be doing it through Facebook's social messenger platform via communicating with a bot. Yes, you heard that right, the Social Media juggernaut has rolled out ads that will redirect users when clicked to their mobile messenger app. 

This is key because since Facebook has purchased Instagram back in 2012 for a whopping 1 billion dollars, we've been waiting patiently for them to continue to build on their key platforms and leverage them for a more streamlined experience. Although it may seem counterintuitive to take users to a different application to make a purchase, it makes sense to native Facebook users. 

Once you've put in your bank information into Facebook you'll be able to easily purchase items from ads through applications that are running on the same coding, and furthermore are streamlined to speak to each other. 

It may take some time for brands and companies to figure out how logistically they will implement bots--and how they will handle customer service, but for now we're eager to see how this will change the landscape of online advertising.

In this way it will change the way restaurants market themselves online, especially through the platform of Facebook. The consolidation is absolutely a benefit for the consumer, but OpenTable’s pairing with Facebook is interesting to consider when you think about a potential monopoly forming in the marketing realm. If Facebook integrates every outside platform into their own, are they cannibalizing diversified marketing techniques?

Perhaps it is too soon to tell, but in any case the new roll-out will signal a change in how we make plans with each other to grab after work drinks, or set up that first date.
